đź‘ź Biden admin makes Russia an offer for Brittney Griner

Bronny James draws a massive crowd for his latest game, Charles Barkley says 'show me the money' to controversial LIV golf league, and the Biden admin makes Russia an offer for Brittney Griner!

Start your day here!

BRONNY

Bronny James draws a massive crowd for his latest game!

Bronny James and his Strive For Greatness team attended Nike’s annual Peach Jam, and spectators showed up in a big way. Peach Jam security encountered a line that stretched longer than four full basketball courts with adoring fans hoping to see Bronny James in action. Obviously, being the child of LeBron James is reason enough to command attention, but Bronny is plenty popular on his own, as evidenced by his combined 11.8M followers on IG and TikTok.

Bronny’s final game left something to be desired in a losing effort to the Vegas Elite. He finished with a stat line of 7/9/4 on 3/11 shooting, with four turnovers. Before this game, he’d been playing quite well, including the night before, when he put up a monster 25/10/5 in an OT win.

There’s no shortage of speculation about Bronny’s future in the NBA. Most scouts consider him still in the prospect stage and that he’d be unlikely to be pro-ready if and when the NBA lowers its age requirement from 19 to 18. Then again, LeBron has famously said he wants a year to play alongside his son in the NBA which could very well move Bronny up several draft boards.

CHARLES BARKLEY

Charles Barkley says 'show me the money' to the controversial LIV golf league.

LIV Golf is a Saudi-backed professional golf league looking to compete with the PGA Tour. So far, LIV has done this by luring away top golfers like Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson with hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries.

The reason this league is controversial isn't so much about the actual golf but rather, the country’s human rights track record. The Saudi Arabian government famously had Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi killed, in addition to potentially having a role in 9/11.

For these reasons, no U.S. broadcaster or cable outlet has agreed to work with them, and right now, LIV golf can only be watched on its website, Youtube, and Facebook pages. That hasn’t stopped LIV from signing several media members to its team, including Arlo White and NBC’s golf analyst David Feherty, and they’re not done yet. In addition to being a Hall of Fame basketball star, Charles Barkley has done golf commentary work, in addition to being a golfer himself, albeit one with questionable swing mechanics.

While appearing on the Dan Patrick Show, Barkley admitted to taking a meeting with LIV CEO Greg Norman but said LIV would need to triple his $10M TNT salary for him to leave the network and come aboard. He doesn’t anticipate such a thing happening, but it appears Barkley is open to working for the controversial league if the money is there.

BRITTNEY GRINER

Brittney Griner, the WNBA Phoenix Mercury star and two-time Olympic gold medalist has been held in Russia since mid-February after Russian police detained her for possessing cannabis oil in her luggage.

Griner rushed to Moscow shortly after the WNBA season ended so she could play in a Russian basketball league. She was still recovering from COVID-19 and has no idea how the cannabis oil ended up in her luggage. Griner has a U.S. doctor’s recommendation for using cannabis to help with her injuries and has repeatedly insisted there was no criminal intent on her end.

Upon her arrival, Griner was detained and coerced into signing documents without receiving a proper explanation of what they said. Griner’s interpreter translated only a fraction of what Russian authorities told her, and she used a translation app on her phone to help fill in the blanks.

The United States has previously declared Griner “wrongfully detained” and according to CNN has made a formal offer to Russia to get her home. The U.S. would send convicted arms trafficker Viktor Bout, a.k.a. “the Merchant of Death” in exchange for Griner and fellow American Paul Whelan.
