BRONNY JAMES
Bronny Follows in LeBron's Footsteps as he Signs NIL deal with Nike
Bronny James has officially followed in his fathers footsteps as he signed a NIL deal with Nike. Nike finalized the deal on Monday along with five other top amateur basketball players. Along with Bronny this list includes Stanford guard Haley Jones, Iowa point guard Caitlin Clark, Sierra Canyon guard Juju Watkins, and the top guard of the 2023 class, D.J. Wagner.
The exact details of the contracts are still being finalized, but Nike does plan to partner with each athlete to help out their hometown communities. All five of these amatuer stars already play for Nike sponsored schools. Now if Bronny does decide to sign with Ohio State next year, they are a Nike sponsored school as well.
Back in 2015, LeBron signed a lifetime deal with Nike and recently launched The LeBron James Innovation Center located at Nike’s headquarters. Because of this it is not a surprise that Bronny signed with Nike. Nike has also recently dropped the LeBron 20 silhouette which includes Bronny in the commercial for it.
TUA TAGOVAILOA
Tua Tagovailoa's Concussion Investigation has Changed the Protocol for Good
After a brutal concussion Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa received on September 29, the NFL and NFLPA have successfully launched and concluded an investigation revolving around the matter.
This all stemmed back to a previous hit he took just four days prior while playing against the Buffalo Bills. During this game, Tua was helped off the field in the first half after hitting his head hard against the turf. When he stood up after the hit, he displayed major signs of a concussion such as head rattling and the inability to stay on his feet. I think it was very fair to say from a viewer's perspective that he looked concussed. Then after a short week Tua was back out on the field for a Thursday night game against the Bengals where he suffered an even harder hit that resulted in his head banging against the turf once again. Following the hit Tua was unable to get back up on his feet and was eventually stretchered off the field before being diagnosed with a concussion.
The investigation did ultimately determine that the medical staff and outside medical professionals followed the correct steps of the concussion protocol as written. However, the NFL and NFLPA do agree that the outcome in this case is not what was intended when the protocols were first written. At the time, the team stated Tua did not report any signs or symptoms of a concussion during his first locker room exam and this is exactly what the investigation concluded as well.
These investigation results came with a new modification to the concussion protocol. The NFL and NFLPA said that any player who shows "abnormality of balance/stability, motor coordination or dysfunctional speech caused by a neurological issue," known as ataxia, will be unable to return to the field. The NFL has always taken concussion protocol very seriously and especially serious with quarterbacks. They have implemented many different rules and penalties over the years to protect the quarterback in many different ways and I am sure there are still a lot more to come.
SHAQUILLE O'NEAL
Jeff Bezos taught Shaq an Important Investing Principle that he Still Uses Today
Shaquille O’Neal has been investing in companies for many years now. The NBA legend had recently come out and shared an investment tip that he learned from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos which he has been following his entire life.
Shaq spoke to CNBC’s Hadley Gamble in Abu Dhabi over the weekend and said, “I was at a tech conference in Vegas and I heard the great Jeff Bezos say ‘If you invest in things, it’s going to change people’s lives,’ you will definitely get a nice return.” He also described how the monetary value of things is not important to him. “It’s basically based off one principle — belief. [Do] you believe in the product? Is it gonna change people’s lives? ... That’s what it is about for me.”
Shaq has been extremely successful both on and off the basketball court. Since retiring he has invested into a very impressive list of companies that includes Google and Apple. Furthermore, he owns over 100 Five Guys Restaurants, 40 gyms, 17 Auntie Anne’s, and has also founded his own fast food chain, Big Chicken. Shaq has also admittedly turned down a lot of offers in the past. “Everybody wants a piece of you … And most of it we turn down,” he said.
