🏀 Chuck & MJ Haven't Spoken in 10 Years!
Patrick Beverley crosses the line, Charles Barkley & Michael Jordan haven't spoken in 10 years, and Bucks head coach is worried about Giannis' safety.
Happy Thanksgiving!
PATRICK BEVERLEY
Patrick Beverley Crosses the Line
Patrick Beverley is an aggressive guy, and it was on full display during the Lakers’ recent loss to the Phoenix Suns. Midway through the fourth quarter, Devin Booker hit Austin Reaves with a hard foul in the paint. Deandre Ayton approached a fallen Reaves, only for Patrick Beverley to enter the fray and aggressively shove Ayton in the back.
As a result of their actions, Booker got a flagrant 1, and Beverley was ejected. Afterward, Booker didn’t mince words with his thoughts on the situation saying: "It was more than it was supposed to be. Pat needs to stop pushing people in the back, man. Push them in the chest. That's all I got to say."
Beverley didn’t seem overly apologetic, calling the incident "very unfortunate," while insinuating Ayton was "mean-mugging” a fallen Reaves. A suspension is likely incoming for Beverley, but don’t expect the 34-year-old to change his ways anytime soon.
CHUCK & MJ
Charles Barkley & Michael Jordan Haven't Spoken in 10 Years?!
Charles Barkley is one of the greatest NBA analysts we’ve ever seen, but that success has come at a cost, namely losing his best friend Michael Jordan. While appearing on the “Let’s Go” podcast, Barkley explained how sharing his honest opinions has had some unintended consequences.
Barkley said: “Michael Jordan, losing his friendship was probably the most prominent thing that’s happened to me.” He elaborated that “Michael got offended about something I said about him. And we haven’t spoken in probably almost 10 years. And he was my best friend at the time. And I love the dude like a brother and we’re both stubborn and we haven’t talked.”
Barkley is likely referring to a 2012 radio interview where he criticized MJ’s performance as an owner of the then-Charlotte Bobcats, suggesting he needed to surround himself with better people. Chuck may have some hot takes, but he's right that Charlotte, who were 4-29 at the time, hasn’t exactly been a model franchise under MJ's stewardship. Thankfully, with LaMelo Ball on the team, things are looking up.
GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO
Bucks Coach is Worried About Giannis' Safety
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been taking a lot of bad hits lately, forcing Bucks' coach Mike Budenholzer to step up for the franchise player. Specifically, Budenholzer took issue with Giannis being clotheslined against the Trail Blazers and shoulder-checked in his midsection against the 76ers. These hits were dangerous, but officials ruled them as only a common foul and flagrant 1, respectively.
The normally reserved Budenholzer said: “I just think sometimes the hits that Giannis is taking, the league needs to look at, the league needs to protect him. It's not just him, anybody takes those hits, the league needs to protect players."
Antetokounmpo acknowledged that he’s been the recipient of a lot of contact lately but is taking it in stride. He said: "I've been taking a lot of hard hits, but I always fall down and get up… It's part of my game, it's part of basketball. Sometimes you're gonna get hit, but I feel no pain. I get up."
