THE ULTIMATE COMEBACK

Baker Mayfield Mounts The Ultimate Hollywood Comeback

For Baker Mayfield and the Los Angeles Rams, last night’s improbable victory was truly a story that could’ve only been written in Hollywood. The Rams trailed by 13 points in the fourth quarter and were somehow led to victory by a quarterback who’d joined the team only two days earlier.

Baker Mayfield has had a tough couple of years. After betting on himself in a contract year and playing through injury, he lost out on a big-money deal and his starting job to the talented and incredibly controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson. Eventually, Mayfield was traded to the Panthers, where he was unable to capture the magic he had a few years earlier when he led the Browns to the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.

Knowing their season was over, the Panthers mercifully released him earlier this week, where he landed with the QB-needy Rams and their offensive mastermind Sean McVay. Given Mayfield arrived only two days earlier, few expected him to play this much, if at all. But after John Wolford’s first drive of the game, Baker took the field and never let it go.

Mayfield miraculously cut the Raiders' lead to just six points with an impressive 75-yard drive, only to one-up himself with an unbelievable 98-yard drive within the final two minutes and no timeouts to win the game 17-16. Mayfield was a man on a mission in the fourth quarter, completing 15 of 20 passes, which is the second-most completions in any quarter of his career, and it couldn’t have come at a more clutch moment.

GAME OF THE YEAR

Was Denver vs Portland the Best Game of the Year?

It seems like every time the Nuggets and Trail Blazers play each other, it’s must-see TV, and last night was certainly no exception. If you somehow missed this one, do yourself a favor, hop on league pass, and at least check out the last quarter. The final three minutes alone featured a whopping nine lead changes, four of which came in the last thirty seconds!

With Jokic resting early in the fourth quarter, the Blazers jumped out to a quick 11-point lead. But Jamal Murray, who up until that point had been struggling, suddenly came alive. Murray scored nine points in just two minutes to dramatically cut the lead and force a timeout.

From there, the two sides effectively traded buckets until the clock ran out, and Murray called the game. With less than a second left, Murray launched a step-back three to ruin Dame Lillard's 40-point night and anyone foolish enough to bet Murray's under. Murray finished the night with 21 points on just 8-21 shooting, but he saved his timely buckets for when they were needed most.

CELEBRITY RICHES

A Deep Dive Inside Trae Young's New $20M Home

Trae Young just added to his growing property collection in a big way! The Atlanta Hawks star dropped $20M on a Calabasas mansion formerly owned by retired NFL linebacker Clay Matthews. The 14,000 square-foot palace is part of the famous Estates at the Oaks community which counts Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, and Britney Spears among its more notable residents.

This $20M purchase is the second-biggest sum ever paid for a Calabasas home, behind a $30M purchase from a tech entrepreneur earlier this year. Thankfully for Young, it’s also a 33% discount on Matthew’s original asking price. However, given Matthews previously bought the property for $2.6M in 2013, even with all the millions spent on customizations, it’s likely he still made a profit.

The house was designed mostly by Clay’s wife Casey, although it famously has an 800-gallon aquarium which was professionally designed on a 2018 episode of the show “Tanked.” In addition to seven bedrooms, and 11 bathrooms, this gigantic home has other wild amenities. This home includes a 15-seat movie theater, a partially subterranean garage with room for up to nine cars, and a wine cellar with enough storage space for thousands of bottles.

To this point, Young has mainly split his time between Atlanta and Oklahoma, where he has impressive homes in Brookhaven, and Norman, respectively. Whether Young is just looking to spend more time in California or he's following in the footsteps of NBA property moguls like LeBron James, there's no denying he's got a gorgeous new home.
