KLAY THOMPSON

Klay Thompson Breaks Out & Leads Warriors to New 3-Point Record

Klay Thompson turned back the clock with his best game of the season while simultaneously helping the Warriors set a new 3-point record. In Sunday night’s win against the Rockets, Thompson, Curry, and Wiggins combined for an NBA record 23 3-pointers, with Klay leading the way with ten.

The Warriors came into this season with sky-high expectations after returning the majority of last season’s championship-winning lineup but have struggled mightily, especially on the road. This win against the tanking Rockets represents the first road win of the season for the Warriors moving their away record to 1-8.

This shooting breakout was also huge for Klay Thompson, who struggled to start this season despite playing well last year after recovering from an ACL injury as well as an Achilles injury. Remarkably, this is Thompson’s sixth time scoring at least ten 3-pointers in a single game, and trails only his fellow Splash Brother, Steph, who boasts an otherworldly 22.

In a postgame interview, Thompson said: "I finally feel like myself. My legs feel great. I'm cutting to the rim, taking great shots and I'm just excited for what's to come.” The Warriors needed every bit of Klay’s brilliance to pull this one out, so hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come.

JULIUS ERVING

Why Dr. J Sold His Championship Rings & MVP Awards

In 2011, Julius Erving auctioned off 144 memorabilia items from his storied career, including game-used jerseys, his championship rings, and MVP awards for a whopping $3.55M. The most notable item was his 1974 New Jersey Nets ABA championship ring which sold for a then-record sum of $460,741.

The timing of this sale was noteworthy because, at the time, reports were Erving owed around $200K to a bank in Georgia. This led to rampant speculation that Erving was under an intense financial strain, which he quickly refuted.

Erving said: “My family is 100 percent behind it” and added: “We decided to do it a long time ago. To claim it’s a fire sale or to clear up some debt, I don’t think so. You don’t do an auction overnight. This has been long planned. We had 4,000 catalogs that have been mailed already to people who buy this kind of stuff.” Reportedly Dr. J has a net worth of $50M, so we’ll take him at his word on this one.

SHAQUILLE O'NEAL

Inside the Crazy Way Shaq Trains His Son

Shaq is a lot of things; a Hall of Fame player, a business mogul, and even a rapper, but he’s recently added basketball trainer to his resume, at least for his sons. But since his oldest son Shareef is already playing in the G-League, Shaq has turned all his attention to training and trash-talking his youngest son, Shaqir.

Shaq's tough love was on full display during an episode of the web series “Life of Shaq,” when he chirped at the 6'7 Texas Southern sophomore: “I’m a Hall of Famer you are not. I got 4 rings, you ain’t got 4 rings so it doesn’t matter.” But aside from the smack talk, Shaq made sure to help Shaqir work on his post moves and shooting.

Shaqir may not have the same pedigree as Shaq or even his older brother Shareef, for that matter, but at 19 years old, the former three-star recruit still has plenty of time to turn his NBA dreams into reality.
