BEN GORDON
Former NBA Star Ben Gordon Arrested for Striking His Son
Former Chicago Bulls Star Ben Gordon was arrested Monday night for allegedly hitting his 10-year-old son at LaGuardia Airport. Gordon was waiting for a flight back to Chicago when police approached him and did not allow him to get onto the plane before detaining him over the alleged abuse. There have also been reports of two Port Authority officers that received injuries while making the arrest. Gordon’s son needed to be escorted to Long Island Jewish Hospital for evaluation of the abuse.
This is not the first time Ben Gordon has gotten into trouble with the law. In the past, Gordon has been arrested multiple different times for many different crimes. Back in June 2017, Gordon was arrested on a misdemeanor charge for falsely activating a fire alarm after he got locked out of his apartment. Afterwards, Gordon did not attend his assigned court date and was issued another warrant for his arrest. In October 2017, Ben was arrested again for locking a woman in a Mount Vernon store that he owns. The two had gotten into an altercation and he would not let her leave the store as a result. Just one month later in November 2017, he faced another arrest for driving a car with a forged license plate. Finally, a few weeks after that he was again apprehended for assaulting and flashing a knife at his former apartment building manager.
Gordon has come out a few years back and talked about all the battles he had with himself during this stretch of arrests. In a 2020 issue of The Players’ Tribune Gordon opened up about all his personal struggles. “I would be up on the roof of my apartment building at four o’ clock in the morning, just pacing to the edge of the ledge, looking over — pacing back and forth, back and forth — just thinking, I’m really about to do it, B,” Gordon said. Furthermore, he never felt the urge to see a therapist but eventually did so following his arrests. The current charges that the former Sixth Man of the Year is facing are still pending.
DAVANTE ADAMS
Davante Adams Apologizes for Shoving Cameraman
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is facing a potential suspension from the NFL as well as legal trouble after shoving a cameraman to the ground following Monday night’s loss in Kansas City. Early Tuesday afternoon, reports revealed that the cameraman had filed a police report for the matter alleging that he was injured as a result.
Following the loss, Davante Adams apologized right away to the man he shoved. "Before I say anything, I want to apologize to the guy running off the field and he ran and jumped in front of me," Adams said. He then later on apologized on Twitter for the incident as well. "Sorry to the guy I pushed over after the game. Obviously very frustrated at the way the game ended and when he ran infront of me as I exited that was my reaction and I felt horrible immediately. Thats not me..MY APOLOGIES man hope you see this," he wrote.
Since the incident, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels has shown his support for Adams. "I support Davante wholeheartedly as a human being," McDaniels said. Police have also come out and said they will investigate the alleged assault and will make sure any applicable charges are given out.
JAMES WISEMAN
How James Wiseman Successfully Completed His 18-Month Rehab
One of the biggest stories so far stemming from the NBA preseason has been the return of the young 21-year-old center, James Wiseman. The Warriors big man had previously been out for 18 months prior to his first game back on September 30. Wiseman has been preparing for this moment for a long time.
After another arthroscopic knee surgery in December, Wiseman has spent the summer doing a lot of upper body work. Wiseman gained nearly ten pounds of muscle this summer as well as a ton of knowledge from constantly breaking down film. He would sit down with Warriors assistant, Dejan Milojevic, and break down film from his past games as well as Kevon Looney and Robert Williams III. Overwhelmed with anticipation, Wiseman was ready to return to the basketball court.
Immediately following the initial injury back in April, Warriors coach Steve Kerr talked about how he could tell the injury was affecting Wiseman. Because of this Kerr proposed he and Wiseman give up Twitter for six weeks to block out all of the outside noise. Wiseman agreed to this proposition and eventually started journaling and going to therapy. On top of this he started writing music as well. Keeping himself busy made it easier for him to cope with emotions and deal with stress. Even after returning to the floor, Wiseman still has continued therapy and says it is something he has needed.
Fresh off an NBA Championship, the Golden State Warriors have shown no signs of slowing down. Wiseman’s return will no doubt play a huge part in the success of the Warriors during this upcoming season. However, the long road to recovery has seemingly come to an end and a fresh start for the young center is finally here.
