🏀 Myles Turner Tells Lakers to Trade for Him

Russell Westbrook comes off the bench in Lakers' first win of the season, NFL stars who could be traded by today's deadline, and Myles Turner shoots his shot with the Lakers.

Start your day off here!

RUSSELL WESTBROOK

Russell Westbrook Comes Off the Bench in Lakers' First Win

Russell Westbrook is back! Ok, not exactly, but Westbrook had his best game of the year and was a driving force behind the Lakers' first win of the season. While coming off the bench, Westbrook put up an impressive 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists on an efficient 6-12 shooting, including going 2-4 from beyond the arc.

But most importantly, Westbrook registered his first positive point differential with a plus 18 performance. For context, he averaged minus-4 per game across his first four outings. While it’s certainly a welcome step in the right direction, it’s unlikely to be enough to keep him in purple and gold, as the roster has fundamental shooting and spacing problems.

NFL TRADE DEADLINE

NFL Stars Who Could Be Traded by Today's Deadline

The NFL trade deadline is today at 4:00 PM EST, and while several notable names have been traded already, many others have not. Here are some impact players who could find themselves on new teams by tomorrow night:

DeAndre Hopkins

Two years ago, the Arizona Cardinals fleeced the Houston Texans, when they acquired DeAndre Hopkins for pennies on the dollar, and while Nuke has been everything the Cardinals could've asked for, there are rumblings that he's ready to move on. Considering how dominant he’s looked since returning from his six-game suspension, should they decide to trade him, it’s hard to imagine the Cardinals not receiving a heck of a lot more than the second and fourth-round picks the Texans got.

Brandin Cooks

Cooks isn’t in the same wide receiver class as Hopkins, but interest in the veteran pass catcher is high. Brandin Cooks is a perennial 1,000-yard receiver and has been linked to the Rams, Giants, Vikings, and Cowboys. The Texans don’t seem particularly motivated to move him, although they could just be posturing to secure their reported asking price of a second-round pick.

Bradley Chubb

To say the season hasn’t gone the way the Denver Broncos envisioned is an understatement. Several Broncos are reportedly on the block, but outside linebacker Bradley Chubb could be the most likely to be traded. Chubb is in the final year of his rookie contract, meaning any team that acquires his services likely would need to work out a contract extension with him. Normally, having to pay the player lowers their trade value, but reports suggest the Pro Bowl defender could still fetch a first-round pick, making the proposition of trading him more palatable.

Brian Burns

Panthers defensive end Brian Burns is one of the most sought-after pass rushers in the league, so much so that the Panthers reportedly turned down a massive offer of two first-round picks for him. It seems like the Panthers are inclined to keep and extend him, but if Burns is moved the cost will be enormous. The Panthers already dealt CMC for a surprising haul, and trading Burns could really accelerate their rebuild.

MYLES TURNER

Myles Turner Shoots his Shot With the Lakers

Everyone knows Myles Turner is going to be traded, including Myles Turner. But Turner may be growing a little tired of waiting, so while appearing on the Woj Pod, he boldly made his case for why the Lakers should trade for him.

When asked directly if the Lakers should trade Russell Westbrook and their two first-round picks for him and Buddy Hield, the answer was an emphatic yes. Turner said: “If I’m the Lakers, I take a very hard look at this with the position that you're in. I know what I can provide for a team.” He then elaborated on his leadership, shot-blocking, three-point shooting, and playmaking abilities as reasons to execute the trade.

Whether or not a Turner/Hield package is the best use of the tantalizing Lakers first-round picks remains to be seen, but no one denies those two would help the Lakers. Additionally, the last time Turner took the court, he dropped 27 points, ten rebounds, and five blocks, while also shooting 3-4 from three. If he continues to put up those kinds of stats he may just force the Lakers' hand.
