Happy Humpday!

NBA FREE AGENTS

Hall of Fame Free Agents Are Still Available

While many NBA rosters have been filled out, there are multiple future first-ballot Hall of Famers still available on the free agent market that could help contending teams.

Carmelo Anthony tops the list as a ten-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA player who’s preparing for his 20th NBA Season. Melo isn’t the player of old but the future Hall of Famer will likely find a team before this upcoming season. Anthony's been linked to the Celtics, Lakers, Nets, and Knicks in recent weeks.

Dwight Howard is an eight-time All-Star, five-time rebound champion, five-time All-Defensive center, and a very viable frontcourt option for NBA teams. Depending on the team, the 36-year-old could find himself as a starter or as a bench player, but he can still provide valuable rebounding and size for needy teams.

Rajon Rondo is still available, but retirement is also on the table for the 18-year NBA vet. Rondo has been a very strong backup guard in the last few seasons and is still a phenomenal passer. He’s also developed his three-ball, shooting 46.8% last year with the Cavs.

SWAGGY P & D'ANGELO RUSSELL

Swaggy P Wants to Box D'Angelo Russell

Former Lakers guard Nick Young was recently asked on a podcast which NBA player he would like to get in a boxing ring with, and his answer didn’t disappoint. Naturally, Swaggy P said former teammate D’Angelo Russell.

The two famously had a huge falling out after DLo recorded Young admitting to cheating on his then-fiancée Iggy Azalea. Morality aside, this action by DLo led to a fractured relationship with Young and other teammates and was a factor in sending Russell to Brooklyn.

Russell is in the final year of a four-year $117M max contract, so while fans and Young may want this match to happen, it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.

LEBRON & DRAKE

LeBron & Drake Sued Over Rights to a Movie

LeBron James and Drake, alongside their respective media companies, have been named as defendants in a lawsuit regarding the improper acquisition of “intellectual property rights” regarding the upcoming documentary, Black Ice. Black Ice is a film adaptation of the book Black Ice: The Lost History of the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes, 1895 to 1925. It was written by George and Darril Fosty.

They are being sued by the former NBA players union head Billy Hunter, who claims he holds exclusive rights to any film made about the CHL due to a deal he struck with the book’s authors in March 2019. This deal reportedly included a $10,000 down payment, $265,000 for the movie rights, and an “option agreement” for a film adaptation.

Despite this lawsuit, the documentary is scheduled to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10th. It is executively produced by James and Drake, neither of whom have commented on the lawsuit.
